NEW DELHI:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has extracted maximum advantage of radio during his tenure through his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' on All India Radio, today said: "Radio is a wonderful way to interact, learn and communicate."

In his greetings on World Radio Day to all the radio lovers and to those working in the radio industry, he said: "Greetings on World Radio Day. I congratulate all radio lovers and those who work in the radio industry and keep the medium active and vibrant."

He added: "My own Mann Ki Baat experience has connected me with people across India" and said all 'Mann Ki Baat' episodes can be heard at narendramodi.in/mann-ki-baat ”.

In her message on the occasion, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova called on everyone to nurture the power of radio to foster the conversations and the listening we need for cooperation to tackle the challenges all humanity faces.

But she said this requires a new commitment by all to radio. Broadcasters, regulators and audiences alike should nurture and make the most of its power.

“We are living a revolution in how we share and access information – and, yet, in the midst of deep change, radio has never been so dynamic, engaging and important. At a time of turbulence, radio provides an enduring platform to bring communities together. On the way to work, in our homes, offices and fields, in times of peace, conflict and emergencies, radio remains a crucial source of information and knowledge, spanning generations and cultures, inspiring us with the wealth of humanity’s diversity, and connecting us with the world”, she said.

“Radio gives voice to women and men everywhere. It listens to audiences and responds to needs. It is a force for human rights and dignity and a powerful enabler of solutions to the challenges all societies face. This is why radio is important to taking forward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” she added.

“Advancing fundamental freedoms and promoting public access to information is essential to bolstering good governance and the rule of law, to deepening inclusion and dialogue. In tackling new challenges, in responding to climate change, in countering discrimination, radio can provide an accessible and Real -time medium to bridge divides and strengthen dialogue.”

She added: “Listener clubs and forums are uniting communities around common issues with the power to hear themselves on the airwaves and to have others listen to them. Audience engagement policies are placing listeners at the heart of broadcasts. Media and information literacy has never been so vital, to build trust in information and knowledge at a time when notions of ‘truth’ have been challenged.”

“This is how radio can provide a beacon for innovative solutions to local problems, and continue to advance human rights, gender equality, dialogue and peace,” she concluded.

MUMBAI: RJ Alleyah of Fever FM will be adding a new segment 'Arz Kiya Hai' to her ongoing show 'One On One'. This will be a three-month long segment dedicated to lyricists, the unsung heroes of most Bollywood songs.

The segment goes on air from today (17 February 2017) in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur every Friday. Some lyricists to feature on this show are Irshad Kamil, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Anvita Dutt Guptan, Swanand Kirkire, Prasoon Joshi, Kausar Munir, Manoj Muntashir, Manoj Yadav, Mayur Puri, Saeed Qadri, Raj Shekhar, Rashmi-Virag, Kumaar and Varun Grover.

Confirming the same RJ Alleyah said, “So many contemporary lyricists are doing outstanding work but I feel somehow no one is doing enough to popularize their work. Understanding my familiarity with these songwriters I would love to work on a series of interview with them and talk at length about their influences and writings. I want people to know the names behind the songs, in fact, the faces behind the words.”

‘Arz Kiya Hai’ promises to offer some interesting stories behind the making of a song. “There are interesting stories. When I was talking to Manoj Muntashir I learned that ‘Kaun Tujhe Yuh Pyaar Karega’ is the first song where a woman expresses her love for a man. Most of the songs are the other way round. The director of ‘M.S. Dhoni’ Neeraj Pandey wanted Dhoni’s lover to express her feelings for him as he is a shy character,” explained the RJ.

The format of this segment will be link-song-link-song; where the RJ will talk about the making of every single song, the stories and the inspiration and touch upon the lives of these lyricists.

Will Sarthak FM go on-air from 1 April 2017?

$
0
0

MUMBAI: Odisha will have its first Odia language radio stations airing from 1 April 2017 in Bhubaneshwar and Rourkela, if all goes well. Sarthak music’s FM station Sarthak FM had earlier declared to launch on 5 September 2016, which has now been postponed to 1 April this year due to delay is permission from the government.

An all new FM station to launch requires 13 permissions from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Sarthak FM has acquired 11 permissions till now and is waiting for two more namely SCAFA (Technical checks) and the Operating License.

Sathak FM will be on air only if the government grants permission before 1 April 2017. “The two permissions are on hold since last one and a half month. The government is delaying with an excuse to antenna height of the transmitter. We are hoping to get it cleared with all permissions in the next 15 days,” said Sarthak Music managing director Sitaram Agrawala.

Sarthak FM is all set to entertain the listeners. They plan to give the audience a complete Odia content in Bhubaneshwar and a mix of Sambalpuri (Kosli) and Odia in Rourkela. They also plan to launch a new song each day. These songs will be created by Sarthak Music team. The team already has a bank of 100 songs that are ready to play.

Odisha has other competitors in the market like Big FM and Red FM who provide 100 per cent Hindi content while Radio Choklate has 80 per cent Hindi and 20 per cent Odia. According to Agrawala, it is the Hindi content on FM that led to the Orissa audience switching from FM to Television.

“The revenue FM received 10 years ago is the same they receive today, no increase in revenue. The only reason to be observed is Hindi content. FM’s are meant to be connected with the audience. Due to the language difference, the connection is not happening. Also the new singers today are unable to build a connection with the audience that singers of Udit Narayan’s generation could,” said Agrawala.

Thus, perceiving the situation, Sarthak FM is coming up with a unique content to connect with all age group listeners and to eradicate the revenue stagnation.

Furthermore, Sarthak FM is not concentrating on monetary benefits. They want many more radio stations to take inspiration from them and air more regional content.

“We do not have advertisers at present neither are we chasing any. Sarthak FM is fine to work independently until six months. We wish to create our standard in the market and then there will be advertisers coming to us to know our rates,” ends Agrawala.

Sarthak FM will be a 24-hour radio station which will air on 91.1 frequency.
